Our Australian Native Pepper Berries

Destiny’s Chai planted our own native pepper berries in 2021 in the Southern Highlands, NSW. We handpick the berries and leaves, gently dry them, and use them in selected handcrafted chai batches.

Traditionally valued for their warm spice notes, native pepper berries bring depth, character, and a uniquely Australian connection to every cup.

It is high in fibre and calcium and also contains other minerals such as iron and magnesium.

Cinnamon 

Cinnamon comes from the bark of a cinnamon tree and has a sweet and woody flavour. It is high in fibre and calcium and also contains other minerals such as iron and magnesium.

Green Cardamom 

Green cardamom is the third most expensive spice in the world! This spice can prevent inflammation in the body and aid in the digestive process. It has an intense and slightly sweet flavour.

Cloves

Cloves are unopened sun dried flower buds of the tropical clove tree. They have a fruity hot taste with a warm aroma and are low in calories but have a rich source of manganese.

Star Anise

Star anise comes from an evergreen tree that reaches heights up to 15 metres tall. The spice has a similar taste to liquorice and is rich in antioxidant and vitamin A and C.

Nutmeg 

Nutmeg grow on an evergreen tree and have a warm, nutty flavour. They contain powerful anti-inflammatory plant compounds that act as antioxidants.

Ginger 

Ginger is beneficial for the digestive system and can treat many forms of nausea. It has a pungent, spicy taste and is actually an underground stem from a tropical herb plant called Zingiber Offinale

Fennel seeds have an anise-like flavour and come from the fennel plant where the seeds, leaves, flowers, pollen, stalk and bulb are all edible! They have a good source of Vitamin C, folate, potassium and fibre.
